The Vision of America

My dream of being able to live and study in America is nearly coming true. If you didn't already know, I am studying abroad in America for the next academic year, leaving my friends, leaving my family and leaving SIS. This is a major change in my life, maybe it could be the biggest culture shock I will ever experience in my life. However, the idea of studying in a different country and the idea of escaping the daily life in Hanoi beats all of the other negative possibilities I may face when I arrive. I expect a lot from the United States from all the stories I've heard, from the pictures and movies I've seen, America seems 'THE' place to spend your live in. I hope it will be the opposite to Vietnam - with beautiful nature, better traffic, better service, better food and so much more!

I am expecting to be studying in the state of Florida but there are also a lot of schools  to which I'm applying to that lie all over America. I choose Florida due to its beautiful weather, great beach, the variety of ethnic and the quality of the schools placed there. Studying in Florida, I hope to be able to learn how to swim (I am unable to swim yet), involved in sports with other athletics students in my school and being coached by professionals on the sports I play in order to improve my game.

Firstly at what I expect generally in America, is it's cosmopolitan, with the variety of ethnic and civic nationalities from all around the world. It would be great being able to meet all of these people and being able to be friends with them, sharing our common and differences. I hope I would fit in to the community of these various type of people just fine, without any problems needed.

Secondly, is the place where I am spending my time in America which is in a dormitory. I had never stayed in a dormitory before so it would be a new experience for me to face. I hope sharing a room with an American roommate would help me develop both in my English and my American culture aspects. Additionally, I would also be living in a developed country for a long period of time, I hope it would be different to what Hanoi is.

Thirdly, I expect the food from America to have a better quality than Vietnamese food. I am tired of traditional food in which I am consuming in my daily life. I want some modernize food and fast food such McDonald's, Burger King, Starbucks and so much more. If I am studying in Massachusetts or any states next to the coast, I expect great seafood from those places as I've multiple compliments on the quality of lobster being serve in coastal states.

In conclusion, I am expecting a great time in the United States and I hope it would have some of my best moments of high school there. The time is running very fast and I am going in less than 6 months. Wish me luck!
